ReadyCloud – How to share a file (ReadyNAS 6.2.0)

I already brought this up in another post I made regarding inviting users to ReadyCloud but I figured it may be worth it’s own post since it’s probably one of my favorite features of the latest ReadyCloud update.

ReadyCloud’s “E-mail as Link” – What is it and why is it useful?

I know that not all ReadyNAS/ReadyCloud users are very technical and thus setting up accounts, permissions etc is not very optimal… Also sometimes you just need to quickly send a file to someone and you don’t want to force that person to go through the process of signing up for a ReadyCloud account of their own just for this specific file. With the most recent ReadyCloud update you are finally able to quickly send a file to someone without all that hassle. You can just generate a download link to a specific file on your NAS and then have that link sent to whoever you want, it’s a great feature and you can also set specific attributes for each download link such as password protection, expiration after a certain amount of download/at a certain date and also you can get a notification every time the link is accessed. The only thing I’m missing so far is the ability to send the link to more than one email at the time, hopefully it will be introduced in a future release.

Where can I find it and how do I use it?

It’s actually quite easy, all you need to do is to log in to your ReadyCloud account and then browse to the share and specific file that you want to generate a download link for. Just follow the steps below and you’ll be set!

Readycloud allows you to generate a link to a specific file
Right-click the file you want to share -> “E-mail as Link”
You enter the email you want to send the link to and also set up additional options. You can also set the link to expire after at a certain date rather than after x amount of downloads.

And that’s actually it! An email will be generated and sent to the email you entered, if you set a password the recipient will be asked for it after clicking the link. You will receiveĀ an email to your ReadyCloud account email when the file has been accessed (providing you left the “Notify me when link is clicked” checked).

You can monitor your created links from the “manage” page of the ReadyCloud portal:
